What Are 2023 Nonprofit Marketing Trends and Why Should You Care

Top Nonprofit Marketing Trends of 2023

Influencers. Influencers fall into a few categories based on the size of their following. It's much more difficult to attract the attention of a macro or mega influencer so many nonprofits work with nano or micro influencers usually for free. These are mutually beneficial relationships where the nonprofit can get the word out to a new audience and the influencer can promote their community service.

  • Nano-influencers (1,000 to 10,000 followers)

  • Micro-influencers (10,000 to 50,000 followers)

  • Mid-tier influencers (50,000 to 500,000 followers)

  • Macro-influencers (500,000 to 1 million followers)

  • Mega-influencers (1 million+ followers)

NFTs. Non-Fungible Tokens have taken the world by storm and the nonprofit world is no different. NFTs are "digital pieces of content that are valuable due to their exclusivity" (Decker, 2022). Did you know that nonprofits can accept NFTs as donations?

Cryptogiving. Many nonprofits have amended their contribution list to include cryptocurrency. These donations are tax deductible. Adding cryptocurrency to their donation types allows for as many ways for people to give as possible as well as reaching younger donors. Many donation platforms already have this donation integration available.

Text Donations. Text donations have been around for awhile but are still wildly popular because it is very quick and easy to give on your phone which is almost always with you. A useful FREE donation platform for nonprofits to use for text donations that is Give Butter.

Why Should You Care

  • Your mission matters. Nonprofit marketing raises awareness by sharing how and why you are helping your community.

  • Nonprofit marketing supports development. Great fundraising campaigns that are carefully planned and executed can bring in thousands or millions of dollars to support your cause.

  • Great marketing campaigns recruit volunteers. Every nonprofit relies on volunteers to keep the organization running. Volunteers can often only give a couple of hours a week or month so being able to build your volunteer pool will pay off quickly.

  • Clever nonprofit marketing can increase membership and recurring donors. Some nonprofits are member-based organizations that rely on dues to sustain their work. Other nonprofits that tell their story effectively can increase monthly donors which all nonprofits love because it is money that they can count on for future budgeting and planning.

Marketing strategies and planning takes time but creating a campaign that tells why your nonprofit is important and worth supporting could be your lifeline to new partnerships, volunteers, and donors.
